22 February 05 - 09:59new class schedule 2/22

The new class schedule is up!  Click the "classes & events" button to your right for descriptions, dates, and times.  Entrelac, cables, and traditional socks are all back this month.  Call the shop at 664-5858 during business hours to register or for more information.

I think I'm in love....with a yarn.  I just knit up Louet's MerLin last night in a swatch for the Mariah sweater on Knitty; then I washed it and dried it (you can do that with MerLin!) with my regular laundry to road test the swatch.  It softened up, but didn't pill, warp, fade, shrink, or any exhibit other "yarn-delinquent" behavior.  I'm going to knit an aran cardi from this stuff and the thing is going to wear like iron.  Wow!  MerLin was a little stiff when I knit it, but the transformation after the run through the washer and drier is amazing, the wool gets a soft haze, and the linen really loosens up, so the end result is this sort of softness with a backbone.  The stitch definition on the cable pattern stayed crisp despite the softer appearance.  Heaven!

I'll try to post some pics of my swatch later today if I have time; I wish I did a before and after shot!

09 February 05 - 09:27Feb. Newsletter

The February newsletter is finally done (Sorry about the delay, but the store expansion sucked me in.  The new space looks great though!), and has been e-mailed out this morning.  Snail mailers will be mailed out today or tomorrow morning.  Access the newsletter here on the website by clicking the "newsletter" button on your left toolbar.

We have spaces available in the beginner class this Saturday, Feb. 12th, from 10:30am- noon.  Call ASAP to register, because beginner classes have been filling up quickly!

More news on the store expansion tomorrow!

Louet Yarns have arrived!  We're still figuring out where in the store they're going to live, but they're gorgeous and so soft!  Come check them out!

The new class schedule is up, click the button to your left to see the dates, times, and class descriptions.  We've added a new intro crochet class, as well as felted knits (sign up for this one soon, it'll fill up quick!), and shadow knitting.

02 February 05 - 09:47Stitch & Bitch 2/3

Hi all!

Join us for our next Stitch & Bitch, this Thursday, February 3rd, from 6 to 8:30pm.  Bring your current project and join us for snacks, knitting, and relaxation.  Remember, S&B isn’t a class night, so if you have a project you need help with, please call to set up a time when you can have assistance.  While you’re here for S&B, get a sneak preview of the new space in progress!  Warning!  If you linger too long among the boxes of new yarns, we may put you to work building shelves, ha!

The full class schedule will be posted on the website tonight; there is a Beginner/Advanced Beginner class scheduled for this Saturday, from 10:30 am to noon.  If you wish to enroll for this Saturday, please do so ASAP.

I just finished the sample bag for the Felted Knits class, and it is too cute!  The first project is a small drawstring bag with optional furry yarn trim.  It went from being the size of an adult hat for me, pre-felted, to the size of a grapefruit after felting.  Felting never ceases to amaze me, and who knew I'd ever think doing laundry was fun!  I'll try to post a before-and-after picture tonight.
