27 February 06 - 22:11March class schedule
Our new March class schedule & newsletters are up, click the buttons to the left to access them.
Our 2nd Anniversary Sale is this Saturday, March 4th, from 10am to 3pm! We'll have a discount drawing like last year, with up to 40% off of your purchases on Saturday, even on sale and clearance yarn! And look for extra discounts on select arns, as well as clearance grab bag specials! With all of these once-a-year discounts and bargains, we hope you'll understand that we will not be punching our "Knit Addict" punchcards during the sale.
Join us at our two Stitch & Bitch gatherings this week, Thursday, March 2nd, from 6 to 8:30pm, and Friday, March 3rd, from 10:30am to 1pm. Bring your current project and relax with knitting, snacks, and wine. Stitch & Bitch is a social gathering, so if you need to bring in a specific project for help, call us to schedule a separate time for assistance. If you run into a little snag on your project while you're at S&B, you'll be surrounded by many friendly knitters glad to offer their advice.
See you soon!

23 February 06 - 09:17Wow!
Wow! The response to Annie's classes was even bigger than I expected! Y'all managed to completely fill up all of the spots in her classes in 48 hours!
So yes, Annie's classes are now full. We will be taking names for the waiting list for each class and will call if any spaces open up due to drop outs. But even if you aren't coming to class, please come to the booksigning starting at 1pm on Saturday, March 11th. Annie's books will be available for purchase, and you can meet the "Knitting Heretic" in person!
Spaces are still available in this Saturday's Needle Felting class; call the shop to register. Come on, you know you want to play with sharp objects!

20 February 06 - 11:15Annie Modesitt is coming to visit!
We're very pleased to welcome Annie Modesitt, author of The Knitting Heretic, to Knit Nouveau for a weekend of fabulous classes! Annie is one of the best knitting instructors in the country and her classes have gotten rave reviews from yarn shops and knitting conventions around the US.
All classes are three hours in length. Sign up early to reserve your spot in class. Because of the high demand for spots in these classes, all registrations must be prepaid, so please have your credit card number ready when you call.
Class Schedule:
Saturday, March 11th-
Combination Knitting: 9 am to 12 pm. $65. Christened "Combination Knitting" by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts (Fall 2000 Interweave Knits magazine) this method is a combination of the Western or German/American/English style of knitting and Eastern/Islamic knitting. Easier and quicker than traditional Western knitting, this method, creates a very even tension with less "rowing out" less wrist strain. If this method is different than how you've been taught, give it a try and you may discover a new love of knitting blooming! If you're a first time knitter - enjoy! You can mistress this right away!
Booksigning: 1pm to 3pm. Free. Copies of Annie's books will be available for purchase.
Cable Mania (Look Mom, no cable needle!): 3 pm to 6pm. $65. Cables are a mainstay of knitting, but the technique for knitting them WITHOUT cabling needles has eluded many expert knitters. Overcome your fear of cabling and at the same time learn a technique that is faster and easier than the standard technique which uses an extra needle to twist the yarn. Even if you're a beginning knitter, you can cable like an Irish Fisherman (or woman)!
Sunday, March 12th-

Silk Corset Top: 10 am to 1pm. $65. Each student will create a swatch based on the popular Ribbed Silk Corset (designed by the instructor ) Thereby mistressing all techniques used in creating the corset (lace, ribbing, specialty bind offs & cast ons, some cablework, buttonholes). Artyarns Regal Silk and Annie's corset pattern will be available for this class.
Call the shop or come in to register for classes. Registration will begin Tuesday, 2/21. Class size is limited, so register ASAP to guarantee your spot in your chosen classes.

15 February 06 - 21:10Stitch & Bitch 2-16
Join us for our next Stitch & Bitch, this Thursday, February 16th, from 6 to 8:30pm. Bring your current project and relax with snacks, wine, and knitting!
The usual: Stitch & Bitch is a social night, not a class, so if you have a project you need to bring in for assistance, please call us to schedule a separate time. If you run into a little snag while you're at S&B, you'll be surrounded by many friendly knitters glad to offer their advice!
If you can't make it to our evening group, come to Valeta's daytime S&B, this Friday from 10:30 am to 1pm!
New goodies:
Our smiling bumble bee tape measures!

We have these and other new gadgets in stock, stop by and check them out!
And we just got in a new shipment of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in amazing potluck colorways. These are one-of-a-kind dyebatches, and I have to say these are the best ones I've seen yet! Grab them before they run out the door!
We still have a couple slots left in our Needle Felting class. This is the gorgeous sample Debbie, our instructor, brought in to show off the technique. Interested? Give us a call to register or for more information.

07 February 06 - 13:05Oops!
A customer pointed out today that there's an "Oops!" on the schedule about the "Oops!" class! The mistake fixing class is this Saturday, the 11th, not the 18th! I'll correct this on the webpage when I get home, but please note the new date.
Sorry about the mix-up! I need a proofreader; I'm not to be trusted.

02 February 06 - 23:53Superbowl Stock-up
Come and visit during our daytime Stich & Bitch this Friday from 10:30 am to 1 pm!
And don't forget to stock up for a new project or two before Superbowl Sunday! Come by Friday or Saturday to pick out a fun project to keep you busy during the football madness, whether you're a football widow or a rabid fan.
Kudos to the folks at Cakewalk, the bakery across the street and around the corner from us in Old Town! They delivered an amazing assortment of fresh-baked mini cupcakes for tonight's Stitch & Bitch. They were delicious. I may see if I can score some goodies tomorrow for S&B daytime! Yum!

01 February 06 - 21:32Stitch & Bitch 2/3/06
Hey everyone,
Join us at our next Stitch & Bitch, this Thursday, February 2nd, from 6 to 8:30pm. As I just typed that I realized I may have sent out the wrong date in the e-mail I sent out last night! Anyway, bring your project and join us for snacks, wine, & knitting. And the usual caveat: Stitch & Bitch gatherings are not classes, they're a social night, so if you need help with a project, please call us to schedule a separate time. If you run into a snag while you're there, you'll be surrounded by many friendly knitters glad to offer some advice.
And don't forget our daytime Stitch & Bitch gathering with Valeta, this Friday, February 3rd, from 10:30 am to 1 pm. Just like our nighttime S&B, bring your project and hang out!
So a little more San Diego dirt:
Here's a pic from the Potter Craft book release party, and front and center is the other pink-haired yarn girl, Amanda from Lorna's Laces (I'm hiding in the corner). I had a pic with me and Fiona Ellis and one of the Potter Craft girls, but with the flash photo and late-night nose shine and odd camera angle, I don't think it was flattering for any of us. Imagine it, but in more flattering lighting.

And look! San Diego has an Old Town, too! This is the place to go for the best Mexican food, the Old Town Cafe had mole (mol-ay) sauce that was to die for. Joe from Southwest Trading Company gave me the great food tip. Chris and I went there twice! You could watch the women making tortillas by hand in the front window, and the tortillas were delicious.

I was also very pleased to meet Ann and Kay of Mason Dixon Knitting. I got a (signed!) preview copy of their upcoming book (should be out in a couple months), by the same title. Fun stuff, even if they do have a possibly unhealthy obsession with "warsh-cloths", as they call them. But, in defense of the washcloth, they did have the cutest pattern for one in the book, probably the most interesting one I've seen since the Interweave Flower Petals pattern.
And here's a sneak peek at what I've been working on (among other things), a summer design in one of Kollage's newest yarns. Look for new yarns and designs from Kollage this spring. Susie and Mark are putting together great color and texture combos, as usual!
