24 June 06 - 09:42Go Knit!

Hey!  I tried to post yesterday, but my website was acting up and wouldn't let me post.  So here's the amazing new thingamajig I was telling you about, the GoKnit pouches!  They have an exterior snaploop to attach to your bag or beltloop, a drawstring closure that can be worn around your wrist, and an interior snap loop to control your yarn.  Knitting to go!  They're the handiest knitting thingy I've found lately!  I love mine!

I have a good stock left for the weekend.  I'll probably be out of camo again shortly.  Sorry, they just fly out the door (who knew y'all liked camo so much?).  I will be happy to take reservations for the next shipment if we run out of the color you want!

Don't forget, all Berroco yarn is 20% off until the end of this month!  Stock up now on Suede, Plush, Cotton Twist, and other favorites, or try something new like Touche, Yoga, or Boho!

See you soon!

21 June 06 - 17:57Stitch & Bitch 6/22/2006

Sorry I haven't posted in a while!  I've been getting re-oriented after my Indy trip.  My car broke down on my way back, just outside of Nashville!  What an adventure!  A volunteer firefighter stopped to help me out and push my car while I steered to a safer spot, then dropped me off at the nearby mall where I hung out for a few hours until Chris came with his truck and a trailer to pick me up.  I'm glad that my car and I are now home in one piece!  Thanks, Mr. Nashville Firefighter!

Come by and join us at Stitch & Bitch, this Thursday, June 22nd, from 6 to 8:30pm!  Bring your project and hang out with the group; enjoy some snacks and drinks!

Euroflax Linen is now back in stock, this time in 100g skeins!  Come see our Moss Grid Hand Towel from Mason Dixon Knitting to see how amazing this linen is once it's been through the washer and dryer.  So luxurious!  I'm planning a baby sweater out of this, and some facecloths, too!  I'm turning into a linen junkie!

(What's that cool camo knitting pouch in the photo?  All will be revealed later this week!)

Besides Linen, I'm also turning into an Ice Cream Junkie!  Ok, so I'm always crazy for ice cream, but I've brought out my ice cream maker and have been going wild with ice cream experiments!  If anyone has recipes to share, I'd love to hear/read them!  I'm making Lemon Blueberry Swirl right now (another experiment, we'll see how it tastes!), and made Caramel Salted Peanut earlier this week!  Crazy,  but great!

Check out the Portofino top, knit in yummy Rowan Calmer.  This was knit by our very own Shelly!  She did a great job!

I'll leave you with a parting shot.  A shot, that is, of the fab Ann & Kay with dorky MDK fan-club me, and the amazing Teva Durham of Loop-d-Loop:

11 June 06 - 01:32Indy Road Trip

Greetings from Indianapolis!

I'm at the TNNA conference (Ok, technically right now I'm in my hotel room on overpriced highspeed internet, but anyway), checking out trends and living la knitting vida loca with knitting celebrities.

I drove up here; a not-too-gruelling 8 hours.  I had This American Life, David Rakoff, and Sarah Vowell to keep me company (Audible is your friend).  Here's the rundown:

5:30 am: Hit the road!  Leftover Stitch & Bitch scones for breakfast!

7:30 am: Lynchburg, TN.  Far too early for distillery tour.  Never too early for bourbon?
Saw a bison.  Just one.  Is that the proper singular form of bison?

7:35 am: Wasp in the car!!! Eeeck!

8:30 am: Just south of Nashville.  What's that wacky horse and rider statue?  Must ask Ann.

9:00 am: Nashville.  Bass Pro Shop next to the Opryland Hotel?  OMG!!!
Nervous Charlie's Fireworks & Beer.  Insert Redneck joke here.

9:20 am: Kentucky.

9:45 am: Bowling Green, KY.  Weird divided highway makes me feel like I'm on Kramer's spacious one-lane highway from Seinfeld!  The road suddenly split into two very divided lanes on the northbound side and the road was weirdly empty in my own private lane.  Spooky, like a Stephen King story.  Where did all the cars go?

10:00 am: The National Corvette Museum is the most singularly weird piece of architecture I've ever seen.

10:10 am: Must resist urge to go see Dinosaur Land and Cave City!  Falling into tourist trap!

10:20 am: The wasp is back!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!  Shriek!

Road signs:

on left side of highway: Hell Is Real
on right side of highway: Adult Superstore
Which sign got put up first?

Nothing fun after this, but I got into Indy and got settled soon after.

I walked and talked like crazy today!  I talked with Debbie Bliss (Clare, we talked about your Julep recipe!) and she know knows that she's welcome for a Julep, Mimosa, or her drink of choice at any time.  She's dubbed Knit Nouveau's extensive bar as "quite civilized".  That's what I keep telling folks!

Lucy Neatby's hair is so much cooler than mine.  Like 4 different shades of cool.  We talked hair dye.

I went out to dinner with our favorite ladies, Ann & Kay of Mason Dixon Knitting.  We went to a great brew pub (Mmm...Hefeweizen) and talked and ate and gave our weary legs a rest.  I lured Kay into the Cult of Keens, so we went on an impromptu shoe-shopping expedition to Nordstrom's.  My batteries died after only one pic, but I bring you a candid shot of a Mason Dixon knitter (Ann) in shoe heaven:

Ann and I left empty-handed, but Kay rocked her Keen's straight out the door.  I may go back to that Nordstrom's tomorrow, they had sweet Pumas.

More news later!

04 June 06 - 09:20Summer Newsletter

The summer newsletter is up, full of all the June & July classes!  We're trying lots of new classes from our favorite books!

We'll be open until 8:30pm every Tuesday (except July 4th) for our working customers who can't always get to us by 6pm.  We're test driving these new Tuesday hours, so we need your feedback (and visits after 6pm!) to decide if we'll be keeping these hours.

All Berroco Yarn is 20% off, all month!  Grab your favorites or try something new, while they last!  Sorry, no punchcard punches on sale and clearance items.  Get 20% off Berroco books with Berroco yarn purchase.
