20 February 07 - 09:28Calling All Socks!

So I got completely absorbed in my cardigan project, which was getting kind of obsessive. I decided to take a break and do some knitting for someone else, when an e-mail from Afghans for Afghans showed up in my inbox. They need SOCKS! These are for kids ranging from 7 to 18, so a wide range of sizes are needed. A member of a non-profit group working on Afghanistan's educational system has agreed to carry an entire duffel bag filled with socks on her next trip. Read more details, get free patterns, and see yarn details on their website. Remember, socks need to be wool or other animal fiber (like alpaca or mohair). This is a great way to use up wool scraps from felting projects, or buy a skein of inexpensive wool yarn like Cascade 220 or Lamb's Pride! Socks are due in San Francisco on March 7th, so if you want to send them in the shop's shipment, last day to drop off socks will be Saturday, March 3rd. Please pin or tie socks together to keep them from getting separated.

Join us for Stitch & Bitch tonight from 6 to 8:30pm! Bring your knitting and enjoy some snacks, knitting, and relaxation.

Our new spring yarns are arriving! No pictures yet, but here are a few things that have come in recently:

Love It- a springy blend of cotton and acrylic, with some self-striping colors, from Berroco.

Bonsai- bamboo ribbon from Berroco

Safran- a sportweight cotton in lush color from Garnstudio.

AllHemp 6- 100% hemp from LanaKnits.

Rio de la Plata- more great handspun, hand dyed wool from Uraguay

Cashmere Canapa- a cashmere/hemp/cotton blend from LanaKnits that I'm absolutely in love with! I started this sweater:

The "Dollar and a Half" cardigan pattern from the new issue of Interweave Knits, which arrived this week. IK has redesigned their layout, and I love it!

10 February 07 - 09:31Lexie Barnes Bags & New Books!

New bags are in stock from Lexie Barnes!

Lexie's bags are amazing, full of all sorts of pockets, lined with heavy material, and made of an easy to clean coated canvas. I have two, and I love them!

We have two new books in from Interweave Press, the much-awaited Lace Style (check out my pattern!), and Amy Singer's No Sheep For You!   And from last week, when I couldn't post properly, Interweave's new sock collection book is available, too!

06 February 07 - 09:52Website News

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we will be moving the website to a new server soon. What does this mean for you? There will be some down time when the move happens, but I'll post again before the actual event with an estimated time that the site will be unavailable.

You won't have to change anything you currently do to get to the site (using knitn.com or knitnouveau.com) and the upside is that we'll have a faster, more reliable website for you to enjoy and a lot more space for Mercedes to fill up with pictures :).
