23 April 07 - 14:30Mark Me!

Now. Have you heard of etsy? No? Well then go take a peek...in another window, please...I know how the etsy will draw lure suck you in. Okay. Now that we all know what etsy is, I'll have you know that I dived in headfirst the other day. Hard. Hit my head on the bottom. It was fabulous. And in my venturing I came across a few choice places. So I took advantage of their offerings and have devised these little lovelies:

They're now all available at the shop for your purchasing enjoyment. Love them well.
Keep your eyes open. I've not hit the bottom of the bead love with etsy. More are on the way even as I type this! Also, if you find some fabulous beads that you think would make some rockin' stitch markers, I'm glad to work something out and get you hooked up. Just let me know!

13 April 07 - 16:35Pattern Glitches
As I'm sure some of you noticed, the patterns vanished from the site the other day. Not sure why they vanished or where they went (probably PCB for spring break) but they're back up and running now without even the slightest hint of a sunburn or hangover.
13 April 07 - 08:42A Year in the Life...
...of Niblette. It's only fitting that on this here yarn shop and knitting site, I should document the time with knitting and shop related photos. So, hold on tight! It's a whole fibery year in the short span of a blog post!
Niblette came into the world on April 12, 2006 at 9:15 p.m. Of course there was no fiber involved, so that's all I'm going to say about that. It was indeed a fabulous moment, but there are pictures of cute baby in knitted items to come, so I'll just skip to the good stuff.
Niblette's going home outfit. A Dale of Norway pattern that I (of course) modified to aid in the ease of diaper changing. It was cozy and blue and blubbly, and I practically cried when she grew out of it.
Niblette's First Brush with Fame: Niblette is a fabulous model, as you can all plainly see. She's got a future, that one.
Surprisingly, I didn't knit a whole lot of stuff for Niblette prior to her birth. I knit her going home outfit, a blanket, and then I had a grand idea to knit a baptismal gown...a Dale of Norway baptismal gown. It must have been the hormones, because I was clearly crazy. So, after casting on once, knitting a few rows (each row took one hour to knit...and no, I'm not kidding) and then, after realizing I had twisted the join in my circular knitting, starting all. over. again., I had about 3 inches of lace and finally came to my senses. Thankfully Mercedes helped save the day, and my darling daughter was baptized in a completely unique partially-knitted and partially-sewn gown.
Some gifted fabulousness.

Ooh, can't leave this one out...It's too cute.
I've knit more things for Elise since she came into the world one year ago. She's got a pair of Blu Jeans, and some socks. I've also worked on a couple of hats from the Itty Bitty Hats Book, and I have a design plan rattling around in my head for a wrap skirt. She's also been gifted some other wonderful knitted things along the way...beautiful blankets , a crochet piggy, and most recently a crochet bunny (with Blu Jeans to match Niblette's!).
As you can see, it's been one good baby and fiber-filled year. I can't wait to see what comes next!
Happy Birthday Niblette!

02 April 07 - 15:35A Ragged Tale...
Of a love that refused to die, and a yarn strong enough to repair the bond.
These are my favorite jeans:

I've loved them almost to death, or at least questionable wearability:

A dilemma, indeed. I would look down at the holes with every wearing, trying to decide the best way to repair my raggedy friend. While rearranging the Euroflax, it hit me: Linen patches! They'd be strong and durable, but would wear in like denim! Even better, how about some inspiration from Ann and Kay*?
Behold the early stages of the mitered patch:

It looks right at home:

I used the mitered square recipe from Kay's "Jamie Blankie", a garter stitch mitered square. I have to do some seaming and washing before the stylish linen version of duct tape is complete, but I was thrilled with the results so far. Then I had some more ideas about what to do with my heap of Euroflax leftovers:

How 'bout a little log cabin in the house?

I can't wait to see this come together. I'll keep y'all posted. I'm inspired to work on more miters and cabins, maybe I'll finish (or at least progress) on my mitered square afghan, a la Kay. Or maybe I'll lose all control and start a log cabin bigger than a coaster. Stay tuned!
*People, if you haven't gotten yourself a copy of Mason Dixon Knitting, you do not know what you're missing. It'll change your life. Or at least your ideas about knitting.
