The AC is fixed, yay!  So now it's time to join us again for Stitch & Bitch, this Thursday, May 24th, from 6 to 8:30pm.  Bring your knitting and enjoy stitching, drinks, and good company.

The June/July schedule is in the works, but running late.  We'll post here and send announcements by e-mail once it's complete, and in the meantime, we thank you for your patience.

17 May 07 - 17:28Renegade 5

Meet Renny.

Meet Renny

I have a dog, and his name is Renegade 5, but we just call him Renny.  Renny is a siberian husky.  Because Renny is a dog he sheds.  But when huskies shed it is special, and so they give it a special name: Blowing their coat.  If you own, have ever owned, or just know a husky, you'll know that this term is so much more appropriate for the shedding that a husky does, because saying that a husky just "sheds" is kind of like saying that an F-5 tornado is just "windy".  Twice a year Renny blows his coat, and the house becomes overrun with what I lovingly call Tuft Bunnies...huskies blow their coat in clumps, you see.

Meet Renny's Tuft Bunnies.  Women's size 10 running shoes added for scale.

Tuft Bunnies, en masse

Now, what does this have to do with knitting?  Well.   Renny is currently blowing through another hard-earned coat and so the house is covered in his fur.  It's everywhere, even in places he isn't allowed to go.  There are tufts on the carpets, in the chairs, and in my bed.  And ever since I've become a knitter, and have learned a thing or two about fiber, the inevitable thought that hits me every season is this: If I knew how to spin, and if I had the time, energy, and an altered state of mind, I could make something out of all those tufts.  And those tufts would make one cozy sweater.

But I wonder...would the sweater blow it's coat twice a year?

Just a thought.  Happy knitting and spinning everyone!

09 May 07 - 18:49Sorry, y'all...

No Stitch & Bitch this week.  Our AC is on the fritz; and I'd rather not subject the group to the higher-than-usual temps.  I'll keep everyone posted for the next meet-up.

Stay cool!

06 May 07 - 09:00The Unusual and Eclectic...

Are some of our favorite things!

Kollage Yarns Square Needles are one of our faves, and now those clever folks have come up with Square Crochet Hooks!

I've been in love with mine since I brought it home; they have a great thumb rest and a smooth finish.

Kollage's Square Needles are back in stock in all sizes.

For special yarn, it's hard to beat handspun.  Blue Sky Alpacas has a new handspun organic cotton, and it's lovely.

It's a lively DK weight, try it in some of the beautiful patterns in Natural Knits for Babies and Moms, or in a great summer tank!

03 May 07 - 19:15We all need some Balance...

Especially when Balance is an amazing organic yarn!  O-Wool's Balance is a 50/50 blend of organic cotton and wool, in luscious tweedy colors.  It's crisp and cool, and feels great for all-season knits.

Here's a great summer knit, the Summer Neckdown Cardigan from Knitting Pure and Simple:

It's an easy first sweater, knit in one piece from the neck down.  Try this classic cardigan in a great classic yarn!
