21 June 07 - 14:37SeaWool is back!

Just in time for a new issue of Knitty that features the Coupling sock pattern, knit in SeaWool:

I also love the Sweetpea sock pattern; try this in Lorna's Shepherd Sock.

The Breeze footie socks are cute, too!  They'd be great in Panda Cotton!

Love those summer socks!

07 June 07 - 14:11And now I'm back, from outer space...

and I just walked in to find a mess o' Panda Cotton (ok, so it doesn't rhyme).  Our new favorite summer sock yarn has tons of new variegated colors!

Also in the box was Bamboozle, the big sister of Panda Cotton in worsted weight (think quick socks!!), and Taos, a variegated wool that's great for felting!

We also have some fresh Lantern Moon bags and totes in stock.

I just got back from Columbus, so I have a few photos to share.  On the first night there, Amanda and Sam from Lorna's Laces interviewed the locals to find a good restaurant, and so we discovered the Tip Top.  We then ate (and drank) there every night:

It was that good.  And friendly.

Outside of the North Street Market (where I ate lunch everyday), I saw this fellow:

He sang a fine Irish tune or two, and danced around a bit.  And kindly posed for this photo with that heavy horn.

BTW, the amazing ice cream I had posted about a couple years back, Jeni's, now ships!  Ice cream party!!!!

Check out this great color combo:

How happy!

I had lots of fun with the knitterati, made Annie Modesitt spit gin through her nose, and participated in a "What Happens in Columbus Stays in Columbus" style drinking extravaganza with Amy Singer from Knitty, Jillian Moreno, Kristi Porter, and other rabble-rousers.  At the Tip Top, of course.  In between this ridiculous behavior, I ordered us some fine and lovely things for the fall.  I'll keep you posted as shiny new things arrive.

02 June 07 - 09:46Baby in Blu Jeans

Baby in Blu Jeans

Baby in Blu Jeans

My knitting is in time out.  Not all of it...just one particular project.  A design project.  You see, last Thanksgiving I came up with an idea for a new design.  A cute little wrap skirt (in Niblette's size, of course) that had attached bloomers.  I sketched out a little drawing and went on with my bad knitting self...the holidays were upon me and gift knitting was nowhere near done.

Skip to February.  I've got some good yarn (Cotton Fleece, color CW-820 Teddy Bear), some advice to help me avoid re-inventing the wheel, and has assurance that a neat little trick I had planned to include would work.  I did a swatch, checked my gauge, and off I went.  The bloomers went pretty quick and soon I was ready to cast on for the skirt and when I get to the point to attach the skirt and bloomers, I realize that this plan isn't going to work.  Okay, no problem, just rip the skirt, tinker with the math and start over.

Skirt v1.2  My skirt and bloomers will now line up, so I work my neat little trick and work a waistband.  I start casting off the project and then it hits me...whoa!  This skirt is WIDE.  So wide, that there's no way that my skinny mini little Niblette is going to be able to wear this thing, let alone any other child in the 12-18 month range.  This waist may fit a 4-year old, but then the skirt would be just a little too scandalous, and I'm not that kind of knitwear designer.

Wanna see some evidence?

Blu on Bear

Little bit of extra width, there.

Baby in big knits

Bloomers and skirt v2.0 are forthcoming.  But for now, my knitting is in time out.  It needs to think about what it's done...gauge shifter that it is.

p.s. I'm working up some more stitch markers to donate as prizes for Claudia's MS Ride.  I'll post pics when they're ready, but for now, consider helping her out and earning yourself some chances to win some pretty great stuff.
